Modern Medical Acupuncture & LED Therapy

Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe that the body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced “chee”) through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of this energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health.

LED Therapy

Light therapy is the application of specific wavelengths of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits. The energy delivered is then used to improve cellular performance. Light therapy can be delivered through light emitting diode (LEDs) devices or cold lasers. It has a variety of applications across many medical fields to treat a variety of medical and cosmetic conditions.

FAQ

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chines medicine practitioners believe that the body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced “chee”) through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of this energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health.

How is Acupuncture applied?
Acupuncture is applied to specific points on the body using single use, sterile packed needles.

What does Acupuncture feel like?
Most people report feeling minimal pain when the needle is inserted. The needles is inserted to a point that produces a sensation of pressure or ache. Needles may have heat applied to them or mild electric current may be applied to them. Some people report acupuncture makes them feel energized. Other say they feel relaxed.

How do Acupuncture needles affect the body?
Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system. This, in turn, releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) studies have shown that acupuncture is an effective treatment alone or in combination with conventional therapies to treat a number of conditions such as chronic pain, headaches, anxiety, depression, insomnia, menstrual pain, infertility, addiction and much more.

What are the side effects of Acupuncture?
Possible side effects include infection, soreness or bruising at the site of needle insertion, bleeding, dizziness, fainting and very rarely pneumothorax. Infection risk is kept very low due to the fact that each needle is single use and sterile packed.

How many treatments will I need?
You will have a consultation with your practitioner. Acupuncture treatments build upon each other. In general, an initial treatment plan of 6-10 sessions can be followed by maintenance visits done bi-weekly, monthly or every two months.

Where did LED Therapy come from?
LED therapy was originally created for NASA. LED was created for astronauts when they go into space.  In space there is no gravity, oxygen or sunlight so cells don’t regenerate themselves thus if an astronaut got cut or injured it would never heal. LED therapy was developed to help their cells regenerate so if there was an issue, their body would heal. Since then the health and beauty industries have studied and used its healing properties to treat a variety of conditions.

How does LED Therapy work?

LEDs utilize specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cells. This happens when the cells absorb the light and converting it to energy they can then use to repair, regenerate and proliferate themselves to restore homeostasis. LED light source provides compromised cells with added energy to enhance their performance. This has been proven to help increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, kill acne bacteria, decrease inflammation, improve skin tone, texture and clarity, and ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness and spasm.

Is LED Therapy safe?

In general LED therapy is safe. It is non-invasive and does not cause pain. Rare side effects include inflammation, rashes, skin redness and tenderness.

How long is the treatment?

Treatments usually last 20-30 minutes. In general, an initial treatment plan of 8-10 sessions can be followed by maintenance visits done bi-weekly, monthly or every two months.

Can anyone do LED Therapy?

There are some contraindication for LED therapy, those include pregnancy, epilepsy, those who have photo-allergy and medications that cause light sensitivity.
